I've been in marketing for 8yrs now. Primarily I've worked for manufacturers in plumbing/finished goods. I've made my way to Marketing Manager and I'm at 120k base + 20% bonus. Managed budgets, launched products, managed co-op and so on.

I'm looking to make my next move up (Sr Mgr/Director). As I look around here, I feel like I'm leaving a lot of money potentially on the table, but it seems many are in tech, while I am not.

I did an exploratory interview at a software company for a director role and they made it sound like the 150k base was unattainable. They also kept reminding me how they're software and not a manufacturer. (I have no intentions of any further convos with them).

Is this normal? Am I going to have a hard time switching? I've been successful to date and well liked within my industry, but I just want to be involved with products I love and am passionate about. technology or automotive is where my heart is. #growth #marketing

You can make $150k base as a mid level manager a lot of places. Take it as a blessing in disguise. Go to a serious company that values you

‘Software company’ can mean a lot of different things. I don’t think 150 base is unattainable…. It depends on the industry, your experience and where you’re located.
