Hi all, I have been applying for about 6 months for Program/Product Manager roles at FAANGMULA+ and everything else but have not got any positive response. I have redone my resume and seeking the community feedback to improve my resume further. EDIT: Thank you to each and everyone of you who took the time to review and provide provide feedback. It provided a good reality check for me and helped me identify the areas that I need to work on, not just for the resume but also from a long term career perspective. Cheers!! #tech #programmanager #productmanager #faang #resume #jobhunt
Target non-tech program manager positions. It's a lot of text so a recruiter might not read through it. Personally, I'd also like to see how you achieved the impacts you are mentioning.
How will OP show responsibility + impact + how they did it without lots of text going 2-3 lines for each bullet point? Just curious as I’ve struggled with this myself as well.
Usually the sentence structure is achieved x by doing y as measurable with z or something like that? But yes I know what you're saying, it does take some playing around
I would get rid of experiences that doesn't contribute to your goal of being in product management. Also, your overall background doesn't seem to match what FAANG looking for in PM.I would apply for PM positions at smaller tech companies
What’s your take on the background that FAANG is looking for in PM?
From what I have seen in my personal network and Blind/Reddit, many of their PMs come from either from experienced PM background at smaller companies or startup founders (success or not) with entrepreneurship and problem-solving
Lots of text and unnecessary information, go with less is more and make the CV overall easier to read and scan. For example group your College achievements under your college experience, personally I wouldn't mention being captain at the College Basketball team anymore, surely you have better and more recent leadership examples. Also "Technical Skills: Office 365" is a HUGE red flag, but maybe thats the tech bubble speaking
WTF is a program / product manager. Start there. You don’t even know what job you’re applying for.
This is a hugely popular role in big tech and is referred to as either at different companies
I’ll service you....give the mean definition of product management. Lol Spoken by the person who works at Capital One lol
This point was hammered home to me by some recruiters: Several of the bullets you list are responsibilities- not achievements. How did your work add value? Just because you "Advised federal agency (48 Million budget)" doesn't mean you were effective at it. You're sort of hit and miss with this- you mention how you increased enrollment or compliance- which is great! Can you use similar framing for the whole document.
I went with the approach of achievements and their were no bites. They wanted to see responsibilities to measure skill. There doesn’t seem to be one right way to do it.
Why switching job from Medicine to Tech?
Start with entry level analyst role :) that’s rhe fastest path to PM
Is it? How many years as an analyst do you reckon one could apply for a PM role? Also, would an APM role be a better path to PM compared to an analyst?
I would suggest to quantify your achievement.
Lack of any meaningful experience (PgM at consulting firm doesn’t mean much), lots of red flags (office 365, non specific achievements, too much text for things that don’t matter, JSON, lack of understanding of what PM vs PgM means). Broken English. Your best bet to get into tech is to start your own startup and sell it for few million. Then tech companies will consider you.
