Trying to decide between Roku or Amazon, both AM roles on the Advertising side of the business. Comp is comparable (Roku comes in ~$8k less, but I'm planning on negotiating and am okay with less pay if it means more non-monetary benefits) and the roles are very similar, job responsibility wise. Curious to get a sense of what it's like to work at either and whether one is a better move over the other. Seems like there's a lot of positive growth for both businesses but culture fit, flexibility, and work-life balance is important to me at this stage in my career. Thanks in advance!
Amazon would be an easier sell and you’ll have more resources behind you. Most of roku inventory is pure fraud and masked traffic.
I won't be selling, I'd be handling the post-sales execution but thank you! interesting point re: Roku, i was under the impression from the people I've talked to that their OTT offerings were pretty good hence the growth. did you experience that fraud in your buys?
Frauds a pretty Hefty complaint. Got something to back that up with?
Roku for sure
Why?
Better WLB, better pay, better team, less stress, more transparency
ROKU! Love that company! Stream so much now its crazy. Been a customer since 2011 and their stuff is solid and they have such a lead. I REALLY want to get a role @ Roku ftr ;) just sayin' PM roles there are not typical however.
If you want work/life balance choose Roku.
That's what I'm hearing too, though not sure if Roku is as much a resume builder as Amazon...
I wouldn't join Roku at this point. Roku has very less room to grow in US. Hard to say where things are headed in rest 2020. From next career move I would suggest brand is more important. Amazon will fetch you more opportunities in future.
Would they be similar commutes? Did team peers make one group seem more positioned for success or respected in the organization more? Do you feel like you’d jive more with one hiring manager over another? Are you looking for a long term fit or a 2 yr launchpad? These are the questions I’d be asking myself cause the TCs won’t be noticeable in monthly budget.
ROKU WLB I think is comparable to Amazon. I would go to Amazon. They have OTT but they also have other products in their portfolio. I just recently got done with my round of interviews and it seems that the culture and WLB is based on your manager. I spoke with some AM’s who tell me they’re busy as hell and another one who says it’s bleh. Which vertical at Amazon?
Definitely feel like it's team dependent but everyone I've met this far seems pretty balanced, albeit everyone is a Type A go-getter which I expected haha.
Amazon. You’re still young, focus on building your resume and skills. The Amazon Austin office is great. The office is nearly empty by 5PM everyday. Don’t let people that have never worked in that office tell you about WLB
Amazon hands down - at that TC and YOE you need brand and Roku is good if you're in streaming but otherwise unknown ... Amazon will help you go anywhere
Location? Roku is growing faster than amzn in terms of SP appreciation. But Roku is one trick pony. Amazon is good for learning and future endeavors
TC?
Roku - $112k Amazon - $120k YoE: 6, but on the agency side so this would be a slight pay bump
As someone with account management experience myself, at a much lower TC, I'm impressed with those numbers. That's some good pay.
