This topic has been discussed more than enough time, but I have been doing some
observations myself. And these 7 come to my mind in term of competitiveness and good pay. Well you can’t have one without the other anyways, they’re interdependent.

1. SF Bay Area
2. Greater Los Angeles Area
3. Seattle
4. New York
5. Boston
6. Raleigh, NC
7. Pittsburgh, PA

What do you guys think?

It's definitely near the bottom of the given list. It may change as Amazon builds up in Arlington, but right now tech salaries relatively to the overall average salaries (which are top in the nation) are not that great in the DC area. A lot of government and contractor operations have set the bar at very mediocre tech salaries for the area. There aren't major operations for other top tech companies, either, just small offices.

  • Seattle over LA I would think. Seattle is the hub for two of the largest tech companies and LA is the hub of none?

The “tech” scene in LA is almost non existent, or I would’ve left Seattle and moved there.

Highly doubt I can find a 200k SRE job in LA except for Netflix. When I search DevOps or SRE in LA it’s a bunch of no name companies I’ve never heard of.

As someone that works at a small no name company (with > 200K TC) I can firmly say tech is solid in LA (especially west LA)

I think if tech did not exist in LA, we wouldn’t have Snap, Quibi or Hulu. So yes there is. Even Roku has offices there. If it’s anything related to the entertainment industry, then it is in LA
