Recently referred a friend who I used to work with to a position at my company, and I believe he will get an offer. If/when he does, would it be rude on my part to ask him to share the details of his offer? I’d hate for him not to get a fair deal, and I’m also curious to see what the offers are like now, as i believe he’s around my level. Thoughts?
no. share your details first and speak in terms of ranges.
I would call my friend and share my comp numbers for him to compare when he gets the offer. Once he has the offer in hand, I would be comfortable calling again and asking his offer.
Depending on culture. As a Chinese I am totally fine sharing offer details with my friends.
Indians too
I wouldn’t consider it rude. I think the whole secretive nature of pay primarily serves the internet of the company.

Not rude if its a good friend. And you disclose too. I personally dont give a shit. But thats because im okay knowing that someone else makes more than me or less than me. If either of those makes you uncomfortable you are better off not talking about it.
I have a hard time talking about numbers with friends and family because the tech salaries are so ridiculous compared to other fields. With people inside the industry it’s different; while I still don’t just go about randomly talking about it I’m open to discussing it in the right context.
OP, what's your current offer?
My offer (as SDE 1 in California) is 125k base 30k signing 62 stocks over 4 years
Thanks! It's good offer I'd say. I'm earning almost same in hand at Audible, Newark.
no, don't ask. impolite, and not your business
Depends how good that friend is!
