Quoting from the article,

“We found that, as the students progress in their studies, their critical thinking skills remain approximately the same in Russia and India, but significantly decrease in China. On the contrary, American students show improvement,"

Having studied in both places India and USA, I agree with the comments on both of these places.

Professors in India in general do not encourage critical discussions over topics. They feel threatened when they are not aware of topics.
In USA, professors encourage this and accept that they may not know everything in todays world.

What are your thoughts? Do you agree with research here?

Critical thinking is something that needs to be taught to students at very young age.
It’s not just a requirement for STEM, but it’s a life skill. (Case in point : Q people)

It's not a life skill imo.
So many people get by and thrive without it.
What's more important is consensus building, recognizing group formation, knowing which group to be part of, and influencing said group.
I know it sounds bad, but most humans are shitty, and like live with conginitve bias.
