The thing I take away from this whole thing is this: There’s no solidarity amongst immigrants. Iranians and others - clearly don’t have a line on how far they’ll go - how many fake accounts they have to create, what rhetoric they have to say - to keep the status quo the way it is. In their favor. I mean these are real people with lives, kids, families living decades in the united states - who’re at threat of having to uproot and leave in an instant. If Indians have no path to gc while everyone else is through in a year - these folks are ok with that. The message is this: it’s everyone for themselves. But - what can you say tomorrow to Trump or Bannon or anyone else? When they come for you? White supremacy wins again. Tomorrow, when Trump bans Pakistan or China or anyone else? Well a lot of Indians will be tempted to say the same thing Iranians are saying now - “well, doesn’t affect me. I got mine, screw you” I get it. I do. Everyone is fighting a hard battle. But please: my Iranian friends and others - don’t think the allies you made in this fight will stick by you. Do you really think the Senators who want Indians out of the USofA want Iranians in? They’ll come for you as soon as they’re done putting us down. I’m ok going back. I made my $M and I’ll have fun spending it in Rs. Sincerely, GG, GLHF
Wait for it. S386/HR1044 is going to pass sooner or later. A merit based plan is hope to come soon too.
Cool post. Can you please elaborate on the "Indians not having a path to GC"? It confuses me a little because last time I checked India is getting 7% country cap, like everyone else, plus any spillover. Which actually makes India the largest recipient of GCs. PS How are the layoffs treating you?
As an individual, I don't care where I was born. If others can get it, I should too. As simple as that.
As a friend of mine puts it, There is higher priority for people who haven't been born yet compared to Indians who have been staying here for a decade. This is unfair. I hope leaders realize this themselves.
You want everyone from every country to unite so they can share 1% of the benefit and the rest 99% all goes to India? lol
What pro-S386 supporters don’t realize is that every time they post, they piss off more and more people from RoW. This is because they think they deserve more GCs just because their country has larger population. Also, they think people with Master’s degrees and $300k/yr TC deserve more GCs than RoW people who earn less and are not as educated. It’s ironic they whine about fairness but believe in the above.
I mean, if you want solidarity, why was a plan that benefits everyone not proposed? Why didn't you lobby for more green cards? Why was the change to the status quo is one that benefits one country but is a detriment to all others?
Seriously, are you being mean? Or actively ignorant? You imagine a republican senate will pass an increase in green cards? Leon Fresco - the guy helping with the bill was the one helping Schumer with the Gang of 8 bill
Anyways, my point was - Indians with talent are leaving. I’m sure a revolving set of TCS folks will stick around (no offense to them) Good luck with Trump!
If indians hadn't blindly flagged every post here which seemed to be anti-s386, no matter how neutral or balanced it was, people might have been more sympathetic.
It seemed some Blind admins actually had to step in and unflag some perfectly reasonable anti-S386 posts. One of my posts got flagged but then got unflagged a day later. But a lot more posts remain flagged and we never see them again even if their arguments are polite and reasonable. Such despicable behavior by supporters of S386 bill.
Welcome to indian mob mentality. The well-paid, educated, white collar kind.
Tell to your consultant companies to stop applying thousands of unqualified h1b/gc cases. Then maybe things will get better for Indian queue. Sorry remaining 100 countries can’t give up their gcs for years just because you guys are flooding here.
What's the ask here? How do citizens helps?
Indians are the most hypocritical people I have ever met in my life - support extreme right wing gov in their country but oppose same in the US - you made $M in Uber, and you talk about being fair, lives, kids etc, have you thought about drivers that are actually "core" to your business but the disparity in pay that exists? - have you looked at the current situation of h1b where country quota doesn't exist? Almost all Indians that I know do multiple entries. They game the system to the disadvantage of others - don't even get me started on the scale of fraud indian consulting companies are doing. 7% for Indians is already a decent quota. There are 200 countries in the world. Finally, if you think the system isn't working, then talk about other solutions like increasing overall numbers but Indians arguing for bigger piece of the pie when they already have the biggest piece is just TOO much.
Wait is this a rant comment. Looks like one. Anyways, things aside, why not do immigration based on freaking points like Canada, give priority GC to those with skills and increase the goddamm GC quota each year
I would love the merit based system. Most Indians that I have seen at non-fang companies are mediocre at best. Many even with fake degrees and resumes. The last company that I worked at had to stop hiring contingent workers from TCS, Accenture etc because of rampant obvious fraud and fake resumes. Indians are just too good at gaming this system. That's my concer.
@fellow indians - My priority date is in 2014, did MS in US and have over 6 years of exp in companies like Microsoft, Amazon and Grpn. Im not going to see a gc in my lifetime. I couldn't attend my sister's wedding as my h1b extension was in process, i couldn't go home when my grandfather passed away coz my visa stamp had expired. No one from other countries will understand this unless they go through these issues. But on the other hand we got this opportunity to come to US study in really good universities, work at giant companies. At the end of the day life isn't fair. But take life as it comes and stop worrying. Think of US as UAE where people go to work for few years make money and return.
I am really sorry you couldn't attend your sister's wedding and meet your grandma. Have you considered if this sacrifice is worth it? I'd leave this job if it meant missing that :( I know it's your decision but India is doing well right now and we don't have to be here sacrificing the most important aspects of family.
I am moving to Canada in a few months. I got the pr in 6 months. Atleast they value my education and experience and dont discriminate based on my country of origin

Don’t understand Indians’ fascination with Iranians, don’t you realize ROW is against this, I’ve seen very vocal groups from Koreans, Chinese, Europeans, Israelis, etc etc. Btw tell that to the most prominent Iranian in our company, Dara
Dara gives as much of a shit about this as Sunder Pichai. Iranians have been the most active since the Muslim ban means they need a pipeline around it: F1 visa to GC directly. There are several news articles of the fake accounts they’ve used if you care to look for them
Probably cause Iranians have higher IQ. You can’t jump from f1 to eb gc. USCIS denies such cases cause f1 is not dual intention visa.
