Hi blind community,

I am currently working as software developer for the past 6 years and planning to take a break for 2-3 months without anything lined up. Would this gap create a problem in trying to find a job later?

Would love to hear if someone has done something similar before.

  • I have done it two times. Once at 7yoe and again at 10.5yoe. Hasn't been a problem so far.

I truly believe this should be normalized. And from reading Blind, it already seems common enough. There are previous posts on this too!

Tried to look through similar posts before but most of them are applicable to the US folks. From what I've heard, mentality in India about the gaps isn't so great even if it's only a few months, hence the ask. :) Although I strongly second that this should be normalized, as there comes a time where one might wanna take a break and try out something outside of the IT for example just for a few months and may not necessarily want to call that out in the resume to justify the gap.

This option is always around. Just wanted to know if at all I want to leave and try out a few personal things and then if I want to get back into interview process, would this impact the hiring process in any way.

I did this last January. Thought about taking a gap of 4 months and visit places. Suddenly everything stopped in march along with job interviews. Not a great experience. lol
