Alexa is primarily home automation, while Assistant is primarily phone automation. (It's doing quite well in the home as well) You can also say Assistant is 10000x Alexa on the phone, too. What's Alexa's market share on the phone I wonder? Probably near zero.
Cloud is Core for both, but Amazon uses cloud to prop up razer thin margins for retail. Google is using Search and YouTube to finance cloud, which is growing at a good clip. Google will eventually have 3 high margin business units in the future. It's worth the investment. AWS had a 6 year head start, so no surprise they are the leader. It will be under immense pressure this decade with both azure and gcp coming on strong. Very different than before when they really had the market to themselves.
