Hey, I'm SDE at SAP HQ in Germany, I would like to move to US/Canada with visa sponsership from SAP. There is a SAP internal portal to transfer its employees. Does anybody have any experience with this? Keeping in mind there are similar open positions in US/Canada. #workvisa #h1b

Careful buddy. SAP in America is notorious for low balling H1Bs. I know several H1B/OPT folks that are getting paid 70k TC with 6 YoE
That’ll get cleaned up if the USA starts getting serious about assessing LCAs
This process is documented on SAP portal ... internal transfer depends upon your offer from US/Canada location ... best way to approach is to reach out the teams/contacts your have on these locations .... and schedule few networking sessions with key individuals .... next question will be the value you bring to the table .... you need to have a solid story to back it up .... Finally I never saw a SAP employee making less than 130k TC with 6+ years of experience .... I am in SAP since 10+ years ..... so point of view about “people making 70k” data needs to be validated .... I regularly participate in hiring process btw ... Hope this helps !!
Where are you located? The 70k refers to NSQ SAP IT Business Services aka H1B purgatory
Anyone making 70k in SAP after 6 years of experience ... that is his/her own problem ..... I have some people making 200k+ with similar experience ...... btw I am in CA.
Looks like I should better be here in Germany. I am not very aware of H1B issues etc. With access to Europe and having PR of Germany and a clear way to become German citizen in next 3 years. Plus 30 vacation days a year with health insurance.
TC / YoE
Location WDF, Germany TC: 70k Euros 2 YoE
If u move to bay area , they should give u atleast 120k ., i know few new grads in my team get 120 k for T2-1 ..
Best shot is if u can move from ur current team if they have teams here ... Or u possess some niche SAP knowledge not available in US. I have not heard of international transfers otherwise though .. U get a L1 for 5 years ( read- stuck with SAP) ... But once u get ur H1 u have loads of opportunities here ( esp in Bay area)
Do FAANG offer jobs directly from Europe to their US offices?
They can’t hire u directly into US , since u require a H1B visa which is through a lottery once a year ., so they hire u into one of the EU office and then transfer u to US by applying H1 or on L1
Depends what u want to do. If you want career at sap, stay in WDF as it is the only place where the real career can happen. Any satellite office in NA is a satellite and is overruled by decisions from WDF. Any decisions is taken in WDF. With the exception of acquisitions - there the story might be different.
I'm SDE at SAP, I don't see its an advantage to be here WDF as I am not product person. I can also have similar career in NA. My question was how to move?
Ok so in sap path for tech person career is from developer, senior developer to architect, chief architect. That path is faster to achieve in wdf than NA. But moving to canada or us is obviously possible of course not in current conditions.
My advice when applying on the portal for internal jobs is not to count on the recruiters to do anything with your CV. Reach out directly to the hiring manager and ask them for an informational interview and express your interest in the role. Though keep in mind you have way more job security in Germany than we do in the US.
Germany pays peanuts but great benefit... Never worried to get laid off. But ur 70k may only turn to 140k by the time u reitre. Very different life style
Came to know that Canada pays even lesser than Germany.
More $$$?
One of the reason 😁
I'll take it's the primary reason. International travels or applicants would likely have to wait at least till August if not till October. Then, I'd say just talk to your manager.
