what are your thoughts on working abroad? There are good software companies outside of the US such as Line, Rakuten, Baidu, Tencent, Samsung, Didi, and etc.

Why do you only pick only Asian companies? Is Europe out off fashion?

I'm scared of the tax implications, on top of the likely pay cut. But yeah there are Google offices I'd definitely transfer to as a way to shake up my life. Starting to feel it's been too long in one city.

Can only speak from Chinese work culture perspective: don't expect anything near a work-life balance. Not to say you won't have personal time, but your personal time will will include "optional" dinners and drinks with coworkers. Tons of team building activities that would be completely banned in the US go on in China (just imagine totally inappropriate ice breakers) and HR goes along with it. Most of the younger foreigners seemed to embrace that though.

They still pay you as much as in US? Then they'd expect really something.

One of my life goals is to work overseas a few years when the time is right. It's more of a personal enrichment based decision rather than a career/financial decision though. That being said, I think I would opt for an overseas office of a US company rather than an international company because eventually I think I would want to come back to the US, and work culture.

I remember Msft used to have a program called "Marco Polo" where you go to China and work there for 3 months.
I always wanted to try it, but I left the company before I was senior enough to candidate myself :(

Not a formal rotation program, no. I know a number of folks from the US who worked in a non-US office for a year or three, specifically for the experience of doing so. it's a pretty low-risk way to experience being an expat.
