Recently promoted SDE-2 at Amazon India. Looking for a switch to Google. Wanted to know if I could apply for Google L4 SWE with only 2.5 YOE. Morever, do I need to give a system design interview round if I manage to convince the recruiter to setup an L4 loop ? Also would it be better to stay at Amazon and move to Amazon Seattle after an year and target for SDE-3 ? Currently I am pretty much satisfied with my SDM and the leadership trusts me. Would appreciate thoughts of fellow Googlers/Amazonians. TC : 34 LPA
There is no system design round if you have less than 5 yoe. They do system design for senior candidates. It’s very unlikely to get L4 unless you ace the coding rounds
Do you know any specific areas according to which a candidate is placed into an L3 or a L4 bucket based on the coding rounds ?
Just to point out - Google L3 will still give you a higher tc.
They might, but I don't want to get downleveled now
How high can Google L3 TC go ? Above 50L?
You'd have to nail your rounds perfectly and write perfect code and test cases with 20 minutes to spare... ...and even then they'll still put you in L3 lmao.
Then with what YOE should one try to target the Google L4 role ? Also just based on the coding round performances, how does Google differentiate between L3 and L4 positions ?
3 is the bare minimum
