I'm a SDE I who joined Amazon 4 months back. I've been told that I'll be put on 'pseudo' dev plan soon and HR would also be involved. I don't think that's a fair judgment of me, but I'll leave it to another post. The thing is that I've started to look for another job. As many of you know that Amazon pays a huge signing bonus and relocation amount that needs to be paid back at a pro rated amount. I've taken 24k ( pre tax) for first year and 10k (pre tax). If I leave Amazon soon, I'll probably own about 12 + 7.5 k = 20k to Amazon. Do I have to pay this amount before I leave, or I can pay it back in a monthly payment kinda scheme.
How did you get to that point in four months?
What exactly is this pseudo Dev plan?
Means being put on pip (improvement plan). Request xyz deliverables by n date or get dinged. You lessen the noose each deliverable met, or tighten for each failed
Structuring this process to last the next 8 months, while prepping for other interviews, might solve OPs problem.
And which team?
You should negotiate a sign on bonus that would cover this cost. You can then pay amazon back. Sorry to hear about PiP.
Interested in knowing the org/team so I can avoid it, OP.
Sde I 4 months... is he expecting you tO build new service/framework on your own or sth like that 😂
Usually you don't have to pay those bonuses back if the company let's you go. If they put you on a PIP they may also just offer you severance to just leave.
Severance depends on how long you work with the company.
Amazon never ceases to impress
I don’t think they can force you to pay it all back right away. You might be sent to collections or something though, at which point you can probably institute a payment plan.
