Considering making a career switch from Software Engineer over to Solutions Architect. Curious what the pay difference would be from L5 SDE to L5 Solutions Architect, Also curious if the pay structure is different. TC: 210k YOE: 3
L5 SA with only 3 yoe would be tough to make happen, we usually look for more breadth and depth of knowledge. Also, you'll take a pay cut in the transition of SDE -> SA at the same level (yep, we require more years experience and get paid less).
What's a solution architect exactly, I have Googled it but am little confused. Here in India Architect is the one who behaves like a Staff in US I guess, HLD, makes design and architecture decisions etc.
I would say don't go yet , otherwise you will get lost between lot of loud mouths and a 100 domains and services etc.. The average person will have like 15 years experience , of course there are people with 8-12 years experience too. Even I switched from SDE to SA bit. there will be some pay cut and also lot of talking, emails and presentations than getting things done. Of course the treatment , culture and wlb is definitely good compared to service team.
