SF residents, How uncomfortable/disturbed do you feel about the high homelessness rate in SF and the human waste covering the valuable city assets like Civic Center, historical MUNI lines etc.? Have you taken any actions personally about the situation (e.g. protesting city politicians, raising the issue at your SF-based company, donating to funds, giving a room/toilet to a homeless person etc.)?
Really dislike it, over the past couple weeks I feel like the homeless problem has doubled in soma.
We should hire the homeless folk to pick up the waste and drop it in front of City Hall. That will get some attention!
Is this a joke? Where do you think city hall is?
Might as well add Seattle to this thread. City is a shit hole. It’s like living in a third-world country.
I work in downtown SF - it is disgusting, but over years I just accepted it as normal and I don’t feel any urge to act or change anything. I don’t really understand how anyone would like to live here tho.
You just gotta accept it, America is a third world country pretending it’s not. I want to move to Japan because of this, but they don’t pay software engineer very well there.
Everyone talks about having a great quality of life or whatever. But how can stepping on shit and being hit by the smell of rotting piss and confronting homelessness every day be considered having a high quality of life? Everyone is either twisted or delusional. Sure, big TC is nice, but most people in the developed world don't consider it a "luxury" to walk on a clean sidewalk.
This is part of the reason I left Amazon. Stepping over human shit every morning put me in a bad mental state right at start of every work day. Yeah I get it they live in the streets but I can’t fix that problem so I gotta do what I can for myself then.
The SF board of supervisors are the problem. They are extremely myopic and ideological. The mayor could fix SF but the city will remain a dump until voters begin electing pragmatic officials instead of populists
Actually stepping on or over human waste is a good thing. Makes us aware of the homeless problem. The worst outcome would be if panhandling was criminalized and the homeless went elsewhere. That might be convenient for you but wouldn't address the underlying problem.
This is peak virtue signaling. "Literal human shit covering our walkways is good because homelessness exists!" Voters like this are why SF, Seattle, and cities like them are getting worse and worse.
This, plus the traffic, means I don’t visit SF as much as I used to.
