Something something time is money. But in all honesty it depends on a lot of factors you didn't list. How much of your income is this? For someone making $400k that $1000 for 45 minutes saved each way is much more worthwhile than someone making $50k a year. Also are you someone who can effectively use a commute? Can you get work done while commuting? Can you read? Can you get some Netflix watching done during this time? Whatever you deem worthwhile of your time, if you can manage to do that effectively, the commute isn't as bad. In my current, personal situation, I'd probably take the 50 minute, because $1k is still a lot of money to me, but I'd also try to find a more middle ground solution e.g. if you can find 15 min commute at +$500 I'd take that Edit: see now you included the tc in title
Actually if I think about it some more, 1.5 hours a day *20 work days a month = 30 hours for $1k => $33/hour. Would I work overtime at that rate? Probably not. So maybe the more expensive option is better. But also both options kind of suck tbh :P
In time alone, you're looking at spending an extra $1000/mo. for 45 min. * 2 * 5 days/week * 4.3 weeks/mo = ~1900 minutes per mo, or about 32 hours per mo. So $1000/32 tells us your spending about $31 per hour each month. Doesn't seem so bad in that context. Just depends on what you value more, the $1000 or an extra 32 hours every month. Of course it changes if can work from home at all, and doesn't take into account the cost of commuting or the health benefits of walking.
Cost of transportation? Add to the rent
Invest the time saved in commute to work on your next career move :-)
1k/month is roughly 10% of your take home. Obviously it's subjective and depends how well you take longer commutes, but to me that's worth it. Anything above 20% would be another question.
Depends on if you can work during the commute. If that’s productive time for you, that’s work hours (every team I’ve worked with at FB treats shuttle time as work hours) - thusly it’s not eating into your personal time. In this case, the trade off is not between $ and time but in $ and annoyance or $ and level of productivity. Fair disclosure: I’m a hypocrite who pays nearly $5k/mo to have a 10 minute walk to my desk from home.
There's not enough info. Are you single ? If so you should optimize for your time because living closer improves your productivity and health. Otherwise it depends on what is convenient for everyone in your family.

3.8k with roommate
I’ve walked to work for the past couple years and now it’d be hard for me to ever drive to the office. Saves gas, parking, time, headaches, and it’s forced me to exercise 😎
