SF Bay vs Seattle as a single?

I'm a 22 years old European guy with opportunities to work at Google in Mountain View or at Amazon in Seattle.

Google seems to be more developer friendly than Amazon and its culture/perks seem to be superior.

However Amazon is located in the heart of Seattle whereas Moutain View is a very small city and one hour away from San Francisco.

As a young and single man what choice should I pick? I want to be able to go out, visit places and date but I also want to pick a company where my geek/engineer personality fits the best.

Both companies pay nearly the same but Google pays a little more to compensate the cost of life in Silicon Valley.

mountain view is very close to San Francisco, there are company shuttle to San Francisco and a lot of people commute between them.

Mountain View. Google is just a better company than Amazon from an employee perspective. You'll score more second dates by virtue of not bitching about work all the time.

Work in Mountain View, play in the city, date in San Jose. (Yeah, I said it.)

Isn't the commute from SF to Google a huge pain in the ass?

Neither, ask to switch to Google NYC.

Otherwise, Google >>>>> Amazon, and the women are better looking in SF vs Seattle. Gender ratio is awful but as a European guy with an accent you have an advantage. Just don't live anywhere other than SF.

living cost mainly housing is cheaper in Seattle, but Google does not pip people as aggressive as Amazon, and if you get laid off in Google you will most likely find a job elsewhere before your exit interview.

I think it takes more prep to get promoted at Google but it's not such a terrible thing.

Based on the choice of words (single, 22, young), I think OP is concerned about getting laid rather than laid off. :D

I moved to Seattle one year ago and have a great friend group here. This city is just so 'liveable' - affordable, walkable, tons to do. I would vote Seattle no question, your salary is going to go a lot further. Moved here from big east coast city and it's been a major upgrade.

Bay all the way- Seattle social scene sucks. Been here 4 years and talking about moving because we still haven't made many great friends.

ok I'm European, worked at Amazon, now working at Google (didn't change my blind crap yet). First as for work, DO NoT Choose Amazon over Google. I left Amazon after 8 months because it is a piece of shit (frugality, fucked up ownership), pm me for awful detail. As far as the bay goes, I commute from East Bay to MV, and if you use Gbus it's not that awful. As far as girls go, peninsula is probably the worse place in the world (due to supply demand thingy). SF is a bit better, but interesting thing is it seems more people are Polly then anywhere else. so getting laid is not that difficult if you don't have a high bar. Getting a serious girlfriend is a different story

poly is a great answer to supply problems. Really should be a study on this. Though I'm selfish.

Maintaining a relationship is difficult when a woman has men hitting on her every day. I have had dudes in front of my face boasting to my GFs about their job, doctor.. money. putting me down in front of the GF. It's pathetic. Never really works but they're desperate. Had one serious relationship here with a "keeper" who ended up with her ex, though I was getting my financial situation in order then. Been around the world and this sort of thing has never happened to me elsewhere.

Everyone I know who works at Google in Mountain View takes the Google bus and gets in at like 10 and leaves at like 4. Sounds like that makes up for the commute.

in both places, especially the bay area, set your expectations low and even when you do lower your standards to get laid, don't settle long term, you deserve better. No one should settle. i would sort of forget about dating in the bay, esp. south bay. I personally hate the fuck n chuck. I say make money in bay, take vacations to other better cities to date. Or after working at Google for a year or so, transfer to a better city. Though there are muuuch better projects in mountain view. All the new stuff that gets you promoted is in MV

yep I love the educated women here. GF is in Eastern Europe drop dead gorgeous and highly educated though so that's ideal. there you can have your cake and eat it too. not too picky as she's with me 😄 Though there are many more women than men
