I signed my offer recently (yay!), will be working in LinkedIn SF so I wanna stay in town, want to live in a studio alone, but I have no clue what good rent is. Decent places seem to be $2800-$3200 (East Cut / Rincon) and $2300-2799 (Soma / Civic Center / Tenderloin) looks a bit sketchy... Is it advisable to splurge $2800+ on a rent? Curious where do y'all live? TC: 186k (updated: minus signing bonus) YOE: new grad! #sanfrancisco #rent #sf
It's up to you but the only way to lower it will be to get roomates.
Is finding a roommate super common in SF?
Yes it is
Live in Alameda, pay $2000 for rent and commute on ferry. They serve drinks onboard too
Is your TC including a signing bonus?
Yeap! I did base + rsu/4 + annual bonus + signing bonus pls correct me if that's not the way to do it
You shouldn't include signing bonus as part of total comp
I’m in mid twenties and everyone I know has at least 1 roommate, including my friends who are 30+ and are managers/directors. Even if you CAN afford it, you’re still wasting a ton of money by living alone. Would highly recommend to find a nice 2 bedroom with a roommate, can have a dope spot for under $2K each. Do not live in tenderloin, you will hate it - even parts SOMA are pretty bad because it’s so close to tenderloin
I wouldn’t look anywhere under $3000 for a studio unless you want homeless people living in front of your door
Join me at avalon in mission bay: https://www.avaloncommunities.com/california/san-francisco-apartments/avalon-at-mission-bay Studio start at 3400. Happy to split the referral bonus!
Studio for $3400 😂
Roommate is a good idea. Look into Hayes for more young neighborhood vibes. There might be good ST leases until you find a neighborhood you look - they’re all distinct.
No. Find a short term rental and in that interim, make connections and find a roommate. Keep it under $2000 unless you’re buying a house.
It’s pretty sad to live with a roommate as a grown up man
No it's not. The time I spent with room mates as a grown up man was some of the best time I had. Obviously if you don't get along with them/aren't friends it's different.
