It’s miserable. 5d/week will demolish your soul. 4d/week is almost as bad. 3d/week hurts but you’ll survive. 2d/week is tolerable. Nowadays I do it once a week, which is a sustainable amount for me. There’s no amount of money or job satisfaction that would make me do it every day again, though.
No. It's not like SF is even that great of a city.
I understand it's a difficult commute but the city is well worth it. Unless one plans to just stay at home on the weekend.
I'm doing the reversed commute: Sunnyvale to SF via Caltrain. I bet you're gonma hate it.
Don't do it. Move closer, why live in SF anyway?
cuz sunnyvale is fuckin boring as shit?
^I second this many times over.
It's hard man but on the other side you would love staying in the city. It's too boring south of SF. Try it for a year or less and see how you do. Also ask your manager about WFH twice a week after the first month
No regular wfh at goog
Easy
Long commutes suck. Would consider moving. Would find out which team you're matched to and see which city they can place you in. Ask for a shuttle map. Without direct shuttles can easily add another 30min each way.
My nearest shuttle stop in SF is Glen Park. Work in Sunnyvale. Been doing that for > 2 years and it's not that bad. I choose to play hookie (work from San Bruno) 1-2 days a week. No one cares. Every team is different though.
Move to Sunnyvale for a year, take your google experience and apply to firms in SF.
It's pretty brutal. It's also potentially not just 1 shuttle ride. Depending on where you live in SF, there may be limited or no shuttles direct to Sunnyvale, so you'd have to use a connection from Mountain View.
Good to know, thanks. Would MTV be better?
Tons of buses to SVL from the south part of the city
