Hello i had an interesting conversation today with my skip level. it turned out my team actually had headcount open for a while but we do not have any recruiting support and that we would need to find hires. i'm not sure what that means exactly? refer friends and family? but it sounds bad. i've noticed that a lot of people who change teams dont get their roles backfilled for over half a year. the only new hires that come in are interns (who then join elsewhere) or SDE1 college grads.
wondering if anyone else in the company noticed the same thing too. not looking good, maybe they will finally get rid of the URA?

Or people who are trying to break into tech.
New Grad pipeline is also like never ending tap.
Most of the new grad who join Amazon are the ones who couldnโt get offer from any other tech company.
Also, when these new grad get some experience they GTFO to other companies
And then cycle ๐
L4 : Amazon has no problem hiring here. L4 new grad have symbiotic relationship with Amazon. These new grad get experience in Big tech when no one gave them a chance. In return, long hauler managers get pip fodder to sacrifice to PIP DEMON in return to save their existing burnt out teams.
L5: thatโs where the problem is. Most of the people who join as L5 come from shady companies or non tech companies and struggle badly. Most of the L5s use to be filled by L1 visa holders from India once who used to fly from Bangalore to Seattle to live their American dream but now I think salaries in India have increased a lot that it is less lucrative to fly to Seattle and deal with Pip stress. So, only brainwashed people are coming on L1
L6: People can come from other tech companies only if they were offered their level + 1. Candidates here are optimising their TC & level when they jump in at L6 from other tech
L7s are mostly L6s with critical systems who are internally promoted. Amazon is trying to save these with duct tape
