SDE 1 (L4) just finished my second year here. Was down-leveled, but drank the Amazon kool-aid and figured "hey, I'll learn and grow at Amazon." That was a big nope. Worst of all, I had a manipulative manager that took advantage of my eagerness for L5 promotion, resulting in much wasted effort I can't even talk about in promo docs. Pretty sure something finally happened after a bunch of complaints & low connections as they just resigned last week completely out of the blue.

I just got accepted to a Master's program, but it's in another state. It's expensive. I know Amazon does not subsidize education. But, is it possible for me to ask for part-time school + full-time remote work or full-time school + part-time remote work? Anyone know anything?

I like my division a lot, but it was just a horrible team fit w/ bad manager and boring work. I could see myself still working here longer term surprisingly.

YOE: 4
TC: 190k
I still manage to get good feedback w/ very strong universal praise for a subset of LPs.

Part time grad school + full time work will get you only a name sake masters degree if you plan to complete the masters in 2 years. You can do justice to the coursework only if you do 1 course per semester which will take 4-5 years to get your masters. So the question is why do you feel the need to do masters?

If you have already thought about these options then I guess it makes sense to start masters while working full time to see if it works. I would start with one course though. Also, for remote work you need S-level approval so not sure if that’s easy.

Any tech companies willing to provide part-time employment for a young & motivated engineer who has no established track record or previous tenure at said company?

Part time education is fine, just don't do it at Amazon. You will 100% burn out and ruin your educational experience. I'd recommend moving to a more chill company like Microsoft. Focus on interview prep, L5 promo doesn't matter, you can interview for L5 roles at other faang on yoe alone.
