I am a junior and I have received internship offers from both Capital One and Goldman Sachs for summer 2021. The thing here is that I have received the Goldman offer after accepting Capital. Do you think it's worth reneging Capital One for Goldman Sachs? What are the pros and cons for each company? I went through my college career services so I could be reported to them by the recruiter which could ban me from campus recruiting. #tech
Capital One tech >>> Goldman tech.
Lol okay, I guess building trading systems vs CRUD apps for credit cards users is "lower tech". The only reason people think C1 has better tech is because they run on AWS, they still have a shit ton of legacy code and you won't be working on anything interesting, how to rip off poor people with high interest rates was solved hundreds of years ago. Also Goldman's credit card tech is newer than C1s by like 15 years
Credit card isn't the only thing at C1. There's plenty of teams in Treasury Management, Banking, Commercial etc. Things like AWS, K8s, CI/CD pipelines with a huge Go and Python presence across the company are things that will easily transfer over other companies. How many other companies use Slang, Goldman Sachs?
Are they both swe roles? If so, go with c1 and if gs is a summer ib analyst, go to gs.
Capital 1 tech internship is wayyyy better. You’ll learn soooo much more. Goldman pays more, sure, but you can go full time there. Capital One will teach you more stuff and you’ll build a real project for corporate use by the end of the internship. You may even walk away with an AWS certification if you try. I work at cap 1 and my sister and college roommate both have done tech and GS. My roommate wants out, and my sister left after 1.5 years.
Our interns do a lot of hands-on project work and typically get certs for aws and csse, among others. I can’t speak for Goldman, though I can say I know a few people that moved from GS to CapitalOne and are happy with the move.
Depends on which team at Goldman and what do you want to do with your career. If you want a fintech route then GS offers more opportunities. If you want pure swe and later go to faang then C1 is better. The blowback for reneging aint that bad other than pissing of campus recruiting. So it's up to you
C1 has great tech, plenty of opportunities to learn literally anything you want, and a great wfh. I'd never work for goldman
I could be a tiny bit biased but C1 for sure
Obviously renege Crapital 1 for everything even McDonald’s
Go with GS. It is quite horrible here.
