Hi all, can someone clarify difference between these roles ? i understand the definitions. can u explain in terms of TC, growth, learning ? am an SDET doing LC and applying currently! i wanna make a transition to SDE but i get calls mostly for SRE roles. even if i get calls for SDE, most recruiters say am a better fit for SRE and consider my profile for SRE after they call me. is SRE as good as SDE in terms of factors i mentioned ? please help with ur suggestions ! also help how to convince i can be a good fit for SDE. am new here . sorry if post is long or am not adept with the lingo here 🙂 7yoe
Do SRE, you’ll be a better engineer and make more money. Anyone can write an app. Not everyone can keep it up and run the business
>anyone can write an app 🤨
Hi even i am fresher in SRE , i want to switch to SDE it is possible right

Should we leave Bay Area?
They're just different roles. SRE is focused on DevOps and sysadmin (although for some reason, whenever I call my SRE friends sysadmins, it strikes a nerve lmao), SDE is more generic and focused on building features, whether it's in web, mobile, desktop application, etc. Don't be a prestige chaser and only go for the one that makes more, experiment and see what excites you. I should also mention that at FB, they're called Production Engineers (PE) and they are paid the same as software engineers (SWE).
Can u give me insight on the differences in terms of TC and growth in ladder? Does SRE get paid as much as SDE? are they called production engineers in fb?
holy shit dude, I literally just said don't focus so damn much on TC and 💰 and be such a prestige chaser.
