Assume both are in the context of FAANG or FAANG-adjacent. If I get a job as SRE, do I have the same earning potential? Are SRE generally respected internally as doing SWE -level work? Trying to gauge if I should turn down offers for these roles, or leverage them into SWE. It seems like the applicant pool is much smaller and my background leads recruiters to reach out about them somewhat frequently. Thanks
I am wondering the same. Are sre interviews easier?
Yes - no where near the amount of leetcode stuff
I think SREs are just glorified sysadmins and configs pushers, but what do I know, I'm just a lowly SW"E" The pay for SREs at Google seems to be a bit less than SWE from what I see, especially considering international offices like Ireland where many of them sit
Sre take care of the operations, monitoring, deployment, production support, including tech administration. From my understanding
PEs and SWEs at FB make the same, so make whatever out of that if you will.
What is PE?
Production Engineer - Facebook's equivalent to SRE
