Losing daily active users for the first time ever, and the only growth is coming from emerging markets where the revenue per ad impression is significantly less. TikTok and other platforms are gaining steam with younger generations while only Boomers use Facebook.

Are the good times over?

Unfortunately, it's not that simple. Yes the younger western generation moves to other apps quite fast (tiktoq, insta) and I think in this sense Facebook is gone from being a cool platform and a place to go to. But it's easy to underestimate the sheer horde of users in other countries (Latam, southern Europe) whose user base is vigorously involved and active there. Back in my home country, everything happens on FB, market place is the new eBay, people share everything there and it's gotten to a point where because people share so much, others feel the need to keep up or be forgotten.

There are people who think sharing what they thing politics wise every time they open their mouth makes them sound smarter. Harsh truth: it doesn’t!

Every time someone blames dictatorship in other countries, I try to remind them that the same shit happens in the US, it’s just less visible.

Too many blinders conflating their own grievances of FB with the health of the company. FB is basically like Google at this point. It's a worldwide utility for the internet. There is room for FB and others. Beyond that, cash, lots of it. They can buy or build other things.

    • Facebook is not Google. I have not used Facebook or Instagram or Whatsapp for years even though I have an account.

I cannot survive without Google for a week. Google is absolutely essential: gmail, map, gdrive, google doc, youtube for learning, and of course search.

    • I am pretty sure I'll find some wierdo who doesn't use google and is attached to bing. Similarly, you might be that one person who doesn't use whatsapp and that doesn't really matter much in a world with 6 billion people.
