  • In tech, other than tier 1 or 2 companies, everyone else's brand value is neutral. What matters is YOUR tech skills and character.

The one place you should be cautious is visa, given the fact that Indian consulting companies enjoy a bad rep, you will face a stricter scrutiny.

I'm guessing there is some unconscious bias in there. I've seen many smart people at Infosys actually! Let's say if they were simply put in US market, many would get in FANG. They are simply locked in there at this point, they don't give a damn. And the company's focus is not making good software. Billable hours, client cost etc are more important. That kind of sucks and is the reason people who stay there don't grow as better engineers. That's my experience.

    • I’m sure there are some, but like you saidβ€” they aren’t encouraged to work at that capacity. Based on my experience and a sample size of about a couple dozen, IBM and Infosys consultants just aren’t great.

But to the main pointβ€” in engineering, your individual skills will always be #1 for your next move. Just be aware that it’ll be a challenge to develop and grow at a firm like that.
