I am looking to invest money in etf and mutual funds . should I do the research on my own or use robo advisors like betterment and wealthfront ... what are other ways to get decent returns

  • I was in the same soup couple of months back and went with Betterment. Mainly because I believe in automation and had no confidence that my research will yield better results than robo-investors. Some of the features they offer are really enticing - like tax harvesting and smart deposit. Imagine trying to do something like tax harvesting on your own... not my cup of tea.

    Look up three fund portfolio and also consider Muni bond funds specifically if your tax rate is high. Do your own research and focus on minimizing fees and taxes rather than beating the market
