Concerns: 1. Moving to Bay area. Have to say good bye to my good friends. My wife and children have the same concerns including school. My family will be missing Seattle a lot. 2. Is Apple good for SWE? Anyone moved to Apple from Google or Facebook? 3. Work life balance- I heard it’s hard to be expected. But I want to be at my kids school events and want to take them to doctors by myself.
My friend quit after 6 months, I recommend you move and try it out for six months before moving family down.
Opengl Dude , lot depends on team you are in . As an Swe it can be insanely great or complete crap shoot - again based on team.
Oh my god the Bay Area is an awful place to raise children.
wBw94CA, why? Could you please elaborate re: bay area being awful to raise kids? Is the Seattle area better?
Op are you in Seattle proper or the east side?
Eastside
The cost of living is substantially higher. Houses get crazy competitive, taxes, traffic is also bad too. Apple gives more scope and less direction so in that sense it’s fun if you’re into really owning your product, but there is work like that in Seattle as well. Depends what you want. I’ll dm you as I was in a similar position and found a good compromise
Why do you move from Seattle to Bay Area? Higher pay? The raise won’t cover the high cost.
The work seems attractive. Actually I have no idea how much I need to live there.
At Apple it totally depends on the team. The work life balance is pretty ok in my team. I see regularly people from Apple moving to Google and have seen only one example so far of someone moving from Google to Apple.
In my team, there are multiple people from google, facebook and Uber.
I've been at both Microsoft and Apple. What's your current level at MS? What's your TC? What level are you interviewing for at Apple?
Bay Area is pretty affordable if you are ok with horrible commute times. East bay has affordable properties especially condos under $800-1M
You will end up in divorce court
