Even by the most simple margins, a phone that over a billion use, facilitates more communication than Facebook.
And like I said, whatever innovation is happening in cell phones, it isn't facilitating much communication that wouldn't happen otherwise. Phones were doing voice calls, text, email, and IM 20 years ago, and video calls 10 years ago.
