Uber or American Airlines (Contract to hire)
Hi all!
First time posting here on blind so here goes.
I work for a big hardware company in the south that's moving into more integrated technologies as a mobile developer. I got hired to work on Android but I've worked on mostly flutter over the year and I've absolutely loved the framework.
After a year, i decided I needed to move. Processes aren't there. No accountability. So I turned on my LinkedIn while I studied for interviews. I did manage to get some big companies lined up for interviews but realistically my prep is a few months away (dealing with some issues as well).
But I got approached by some recruiting companies, took their assessments and 2 weeks later, I got 3 big offers already. And I think I'm happy with these 3 for now.
I got an offer from uber in San Francisco as a contract to hire. Pay is the same as the others so that means I won't be saving much but that's okay. I'm one year out of college so if there's any time to take risks, it's now before I worry about family.
The other is American Airlines in Dallas Texas. They're offering 3 weeks paid time off, national holidays off. Every person on the team I've spoken to seemed very genuine.
I'm torn between the two because being in the bay area opens up doors for me for building connections. Uber seems more prestigious for my resume but I can't say how much bank of America would work.
Both are contract to hire so I am worried about uber, given the recent layoffs. How worried should I be?
Is having uber on my resume worth it?
How is the work culture at uber these days?

Uber culture has gotten much better after Travis left. If your worried about stability, it will be very easy to find a new job. Uber SDEs are well respected.
Assuming you’d be working some good tech @ Uber.
