Has anyone tried this and been successful or only did referrals/recruiter reached out first?
If you were successful cold applying what do you think made your application stand out?

I never had any luck until I got a referral. Tried for years.

After getting the referral, what helped you the most throughout the interview process to stand out?

At that point it's not about standing out, it's just about performing in the interview. You aren't competing with other candidates for a spot unless it's a highly specialized position.

  • Never got invited at G. Eventually a recruiter from another nonFANG company gave me feedback about my horrible resume which I fixed. Started getting a lot more calls from everyone except G.

I got an onsite through foobar, it has leetcode style coding problems. You can find hidden links to it on their documentation pages

  • Cold applied, and have my phone screen on Monday. Really nervous as I just started practicing LC a month ago (when I found out that I had this interview opportunity). Hopeful that I get a softball question for the phone screen, or that the interviewer isn’t a stickler on the actual code I write. I feel I can come up with a plan for problems quickly and communicate effectively, but the actual coding it out takes a lot longer than 45 minutes, and that’s with the dummy test cases to run against. If I get something about graphs or backtracking, I’m probably just gonna say “thank you for your time, I hope to talk with you again in a few months” 😂

    • Just looked it up and I guess I had the balls to apply for 2 Senior SWE positions (Core and Research), and a SWE III front end position. I hadn’t looked into the process at all before applying and didn’t realize people spend months/years prepping and still don’t get in. Pray for me brother. 🫡
