If you’re in a startup earning say around a 175-200k TC - you have around 12 yoe and there are kids with 2-3 yoe making same or more - does it make you worry that cost of living will rise to a point you can’t sustain it and you won’t have a job? How do you cope with that?
Yeah I feel bad for not being Donald Trump’s son or the son of some Chinese or Arab billionaire. Also feel bad about not being a rapper and making tons of money and having sex with tons of groupies. IMO don’t compare yourself to people. Big company = shit tons of aggravating boredom and bureaucracy. It’s all about purpose, values, and perspective that make you happy.
Cost of living going up and not being able to keep up with it is a real problem.
I find it hard to believe one would struggle on six figures. Stop taking expensive vacations. Stop eating out. Send your children to public school. Buy used clothes and used cars.
Living anywhere in the Bay Area as a family is stupidly expensive, we live paycheque to paycheque on around 200k no meals out, no expensive holidays and drive used cars. Family of 5 on a single income... it’s just not worth it but my kids love it here.
You should be spending 200-400 calories per dollar on food. Each mouth is about $5-12 a day. Amortizing over 30 days at $10 per day, that’s $1500 a month on food. How much is rent for you?
Just over $5k
Why are you asking this question if you are happy with work? You should leave if you are working under bad management.
I'm about done with startups for this reason
