Hi everyone, I recently was under negotiations with Bloomberg for SWE entry-level role.

I was asking for a better compensation based on my past experience of 2 year at Oracle, India.

My recruiter told me that the company policy is that any experience outside US is of no value and won't be considered. She categorised me as someone with no experience as I haven't worked in US.

At that moment I didn't think much about this but now I feel like the comment was kind of racist.

So I wanted to ask the community if this is a real policy for Bloomberg or any other company. Because I feel bad and really don't want to work there if it was a racist comment.

Maybe I am just overthinking.

Offered TC is pretty standard: 145k + 20k #engineering #software #swe #bloomberg #bloombergengineer #salarynegotiation

  • Yup. Heard that too from people. Any idea if they differentiate between Bachelors and Master's?

In general this is true, even for folks who have 5, 6, even 7 yoe before attending grad school in the US. There is a caveat here; you want to sell yourself as having experience when interviewing(as is your right), and interview for the level you think you deserve given yoe. Then you get downleveled to higher in the new grad band - or get lucky and get that level. If you are applying for new grad positions you are out of luck and will be treated as a new grad.

Hi, Yeah I applied for the new grad position and she did say that if I have experience, even for the same role, they increase the salary. But my experience doesn't count.

Unfortunately this is the common case. They do it because they can, and people will still accept it. Be happy you didn't spend more time working before coming to US then. I've heard of or seen 5 yoe or 6 yoe folks also getting only new grad positions.
