Salary Range as Engineering Manager

Recuiters asked my salary expecation as Enginering Manager. I wonder if I can get some advice to have a resonalble TC range as an Engineering Manager in Bay Area? This is the average / mediam numbers I found from levels.fyi (numbers from other sources seem to be low) Manager: - L6 Manager / Google: 500 - 550 - L6 SDM / Amazon: 400 - 450 - M1 / Facebook: 500 - 550 Sr. Manager - L7 Senior Manager / Google: 700 - 750 - L7 Seninor SDM: 550 - 600 - M2 / Facebook: 800 (only two numbers, 700 and 950) I currently only manage ICs. But with companies I am interviewing with, some will have only ICs and a couple will have managers. I won't get a Sr. Manager role in FANNG since I am only managing ICs. I m currenlty 14 YOE with 7 Year as manager. I am thinking about a TC with a range of 500 - 600. Does this sound a reasonable range? Thanks

thanks. level.fyi has L5 SDM and L6 SDM. are you referring to L5 or L6? L5 SDM looks like 250-350 based off level.fyl

L6 sdm is not more than 350K from what i heard

Thanks for compiling this. These numbers could be offers from yester years with stock appreciation baked in. What I have discovered is that the only way to know real numbers is to get competing offers and playing them off one another.

Overly over what you’ll be offered. To get anywhere close you need to have competing offers and they need to want u bad

Looks like maybe the level.fyi is higher? Agree that having a competing offer. I am looking for a reasonable range to start with (don't want to be low-balled).

Your L7 Sr. SDM numbers for Amazon are low. Probably around right for Seattle, but in Bay Area, it is more like 550-750 for external offers. Top of band is essentially the same as for Google L7.

At Google L6 Manager of SWE ICs can go up to around 750k

No they cant. Of course an exception with vp approval or an inflated past years rsu can get l6 managers to 750 and even beyond but new offers without exceptions would be around 500k.

If you haven’t negotiated and don’t have competing offers, you can always ask for 10% more, “to make the offer more compelling.” You can probably get +5-10% out of that tactic.
