Hi, I currently make 60k as a project manager. I am a 25yo female. 5 years of experience. l want to keep moving up this career ladder to my next position. PM’s do you think I need my PMP Certification in order to solidify a higher salary? Or are there places that will hire you without it at a 80k range?
There are. But pmp would be great to have and would open up more opportunities for you. Specially with 5 yoe
Just to crack in big tech as a PM and move up the ladder there. Best path.
What kind of projects do you manage? Pm me with your resume.
Digital projects for healthcare.
Send me a link to your resume and we'll go from there
Where were you a full time PM at 20?
She’s most likely including internship experience.
I wouldn’t count that towards YOE. If someone interned annually as an undergrad, most wouldn’t consider that as 3 YOE upon graduation
Next ladder step is Program Manager, where you manage multiple projects under one program.
Need to be mindful of industry and geographic location. Dont be afraid to hop companies every couple of years to increase tc
Also, consider not just a PMP but also something akin to six sigma or lean
Which certifications cover them ?
Theres belt levels for six sigma and tons of different lean certs
Just apply to fang and 3x your salary. You will easily get in as a diversity hire.
It's the same bar for everyone
Exactly what a diversity hire would say
I got my PMP cert at five years and it helped structure / round out my PM knowledge. Also gave me the common terminology that is used across companies and industries. The knowledge becomes increasingly useful once you start working with maybe 40+ engineering orgs with cross team/org dependencies. 8 YOE, ~210 TC
RIP, your inbox. Get the cert, it can only help. You already have an advantage as a woman
Advantage?
Oh Atinlay is back and i wanna poop again! Going to restroom, see you guys.
