I live in Memphis TN, TC is 120K + 20% bonus. What would be an equivalent salary in the bay area, SV and Seattle? Role is Technical Manager.
How big is your house and how long is your commute?
House is 2500sqft , paid 220k. Conmmute is 25 mins
Okay Bay Area that big of a house is anywhere from 1.5 to 3 million+ if you wanna be 25 mins from work. 25 mins commute is probably a 3 to 5 mile radius from work. Property tax is about 1.2% of the property value. Renting that big of a house is at least 6k or so. I am not sure on the rent now since I haven’t rented for years so it could be higher. So you can work backwards from there. You would be really poor with $120k.
You won’t have the same standard of living, period. If you want to live in a 2 bed apartment close to work and still put the same away in savings, i would say you need roughly 200k in SV or 175k in SEA.
Living in Memphis is dirt cheap bro. 120k is a fuck ton of money in this town.

What information would be relevant to add?
For example, if the single most important thing to you is being able to live in a giant house, you’re unlikely to come out ahead in the Bay Area. If you’d be living in an apartment, the cost of living difference isn’t quite so high.
