Current TC $140k (no stock) Last TC $180k, got knocked down by poor performance in my last role. Doing pretty good in current role, on track for 120% this year, President’s Club etc. Curious how to get to $500k +? Would love to hear from other AE’s / Individual Contributors that are here. How long did it take? What moves did you make up the latter? Current average deal size and quota? How have you invested in learning to close bigger deals? All advice appreciated!

Why this?
Truth is less than 1% of folks in technology sales ever get there I’ve only ever met a few. If you want 500k TC start leetcoding!
What's the ceiling you've in the current variable pay?
Highest earner I believe is around $220k at my company.
Then you've to join a services company where average deal size is at least 1 M
Sell more?
Gone are the days of AE making $500k. I’ve only heard of late 90s oracle sales making that much. I’ve been in both media and enterprise
As someone in tech sales i can 100% say this is not true.
Just wondering who’s still making 500k? (As an IC)
You must be at New Relic?
No, a small startup. At least New Relic has leads 😪
Sales folks at CTS , Wipro make that as well
The longer the sales cycle/greater the deal value, the more you can make. If your average size is $8k on a 2 month cycle that sounds like transactional deals. Focus on roles/companies where you can hunt longer cycles that yield larger deals
What is your role, level and location? Under $200k in a sales role is very very surprising to me. Step one is get your base waaaay up because that drives everything. If you TC is under 200 today no amount of quota beating will get you to 500 without a significant change in base
Blended technical AE, selling 25% SMB 50% mid-market and 25% Ent deals. Current average deal size is 8k. ~2 month sales cycle. 500k quota per quarter.
