Thank your blue state policies! This is what you wanted. Happy now? https://www.sfgate.com/bayarea/article/california-city-sales-tax-2019-rates-increase-13732684.php
The local voters approved the sales tax increases. Isn’t local control over local funds a good thing? Bakersfield and other cities on the list aren’t exactly blue.
Paying taxes is not a virtue
Welcome to federalism 101. The best government is the most local government to the people. Voters approve tax and spending in their local community. Don’t like it, the door is that way. You’re free to leave.
They are: https://www.ktvu.com/amp/news/ktvu-local-news/california-exodus-study-says-more-people-leaving-state-than-moving-here The best government isn’t one that just takes and doesn’t give, the government doesn’t always know better how to spend your money.
It’s a free country. The fact is that California is an expensive state to live in. Too expensive for many. You don’t become the most powerful driver of GDP in the country with regressive taxation and not investing. You can’t have your cake and eat it too. And since these small sales tax hikes are voter approved, you can hardly call it government telling you how to spend your money. WFT is that about? It might make for cute bumper sticker slogan though.
This is actually a red state policy - taxing consumption at the local level where benefits are then realized.
Trump introduced taxes on taxes, but states are to be blamed.... So stupid.
This is 100% a state issue. Nothing whatsoever to do with Trump.
But Trump taxes these taxes as well
