I'm an L7 Account Manager at AWS (3.5 years here, 15 total YoE). I was recently approached to (interview to) lead a sales team at AWS for the first time, and in the same week was approached by Stripe to lead a strategic account as an IC. I don't have an offer-in-hand from Stripe, and am aware of the equity upside limitations around value-based stock grants. I would leave some AWS RSUs on the table next year if I left, theoretically in favor of the longer-term potential of Stripe. EDIT: Curious if the answers to this change if comp were more equivalent, and/or if the customer type was vastly different between companies (lesser known, low-billers at AWS and name-brand at Stripe). Current TC: expected to be ~ $420k this year, expecting between $528k-$650k next year at AWS depending on a couple factors.
420k ouch, where are you tracking vs quota? If you’re not clearing 500 as an L7 must have been a tight year
Last year was a shit year for my quota, so my Jan payout wasn't great. This year is much better, but that doesn't translate to comp until next year. But yes, point taken.
And that's what i got a bunch of RSUs to hold me over and incentivize me to stay next year...
Interesting situation. Are you able to share the equity ball park at stripe?
let's say $80-$100k per year
leadership role
Leadership role at AWS then leave to be a Director at late stage startup.. I'M not sure what strategic AE pays at Stripe but for Enterprise AE they told me high mid $200s which seems awfully low.
OP, add a poll.
I'd stay if you can get the management role. Opens up a whole new career path if it works out. If it doesn't you can always go back to IC.

Harvest your 650 next year then look at moving.
