This is for a 12 week summer internship. To the past interns, what option do you suggest and why - Salesforce provided housing vs Own housing ? Salesforce housing : 4 people in a furnished 2 BHK At first glance, 8k$ seems too much to leave though. Not sure how expensive the SF housing is. Is it a good idea to commute from Mountain View where I can crash with my frnds ? Any pointers are appreciated.
I worked there and corporate housing is pretty kickass if its still Rincon tower. You share a fully furnished two bedroom apartment with one other intern and it has amazing views of SF and the Bay Bridge. Also going to work was literally just taking the elevator down and then walking across a small courtyard. I would say take corporate housing.
Is the room / flat maintenance taken care of for the entire stay, or do they just handover the keys to us ?
I would take the housing. No stress and higher value than 8k
Why do you think, it has a higher value than 8k, given that one spends most of the time in office, also it is shared housing ?
Because relatively safe (not even “luxury”) apartments around that area cost at least 3k
I’m living in a 475 sq ft apartment with a 12 month lease at almost $4k/mo. Take the housing.

To SF? Nope. Don’t worry about a couple thousand dollars now, instead sacrifice money to reduce distractions and headaches
Look at it in a larger context; DO you have any buds where you can crash for a few weeks? How valuable is the 8k to you? What happens after the internship - do you go back to school for 6 months or 2 years? Congrats and good luck

The only good idea is taking the corporate housing..if your goal is just saving money and you don’t care about quality of life then sleep on your friend’s sofà in Mountain View, commute 3 hours per day and you’ll be burned out in 3 months but you have achieved your goal of saving 8k. Not sure I would define it a good idea though 😉
Don’t commute from Mountain View. You would be looking at at least an hour each way, assuming you were walking distance to Caltrain.
hey! can I ask what intern position you are? for me my corp housing options were corporate housing (but its 4 interns for a 2-bedroom :( ) and 6k
6k for undergrads and 8k for Masters
I take the Housing instead of the 8k. If you want to save a lot of that, you’re going to have to live in a crappy place especially considering it would be a short term lease. You would also miss out on the networking opportunities from living with other up and coming sales force people which is a cost imo

Mountain View is pretty far but Caltrain or Bart (I forget which one) is cool. Still I’d take the housing. Living downtown sf is really cool. 8k isn’t going to make or break your life. Just have a fun summer dude
