I currently work as lead software engineer (backend) at Cisco. Salesforce offered me a lead staff engineer position with 298K TC (220K base + 33K bonus + 45K RSUs per year). Recruiter said they stopped offering sign on bonuses unless it is an architect position. I have attended a few onsite interviews at faang and bombed them. I liked the team and the product at Salesforce. I have kids and WLB is important to me as well. So I want to take the job, but wanted to see if I can negotiate higher or is that the highest they can go. YOE: 14 Current TC at Cisco: 230K Offered TC at Salesforce: 298K (220K base + 33K bonus + 45K RSUs per year) Location: San Francisco Update: Recruiter promised me 298K verbally. She came back after a few days and said she could not get approval for it and said they can offer only 286K. I dont plan to take it.
TC feels low :(( ....I though staff engineer would be 350-400k all in or am I unrealistic?
Its a good offer. Take it.. you ll have better wlb when compared to fang
Location?
San Francisco
I would kill for sf wlb
Real advice: 1. RSU can be higher. 75K+/year 2. More base is hard. PMTS level is hard. It’s okay if you don’t get it.
Did you check levels.fyi ?
Yes, out of 25+ entries for this role at San Francisco, only 3 entries are more than my offered TC. It is hard to believe though, I thought all lead staff TCs would be more than 300K.
I guess it should be more than 300 for sure. In Seattle Salesforce is giving these offers. Search previous posts in blind
Veterans are not treated well here because of peanut refresher if any. So the new offers made within 2 years are more related to your concern.
Is a decrease in wlb really worth 68k??? It doesn’t get any better than Cisco AmIRight!? Plus if you are TL here the g12+ refresher is coming up in a few months which should add another $100k/4; so only worth $43k more??
Yes, I absolutely love Cisco. I am part of an awesome team. WLB is amazing. But my product is not at all doing good sales wise. Many talented engineers have already resigned as senior mgmt does not believe in this product anymore.
I don’t think OP said he is G12 (senior tech lead). The G11 rewards cycle happened few months back and the perks were great. You are absolutely right on G12 and above getting 100k+ refreshers during the rewards cycle which will happen shortly (next month). For the small jump and SF commute, I don’t think it’s worth it.
I was shocked to also get a senior eng mgr offer which was just around 300k. Equity seems to be pretty low (180k/4 years unless you provide a snapshot of etrade etc. and then they will match) at salesforce. At 320k or so, I was told it will pushing Director comp.
Ah yes good point my bad. I thought g12 cycle was end of October? Is it still possible for g10/11 to be touched too for top performers? Promo wise and or equity wise?

Can you share your interview experience with Salesforce? How does it compare to faang?
I felt it was much much easier than faang. People were very friendly and the whole process much relaxed at Salesforce. I got asked a few leetcode easy problems and one medium problem. System design round was also very much like an informal discussion.
I see. That’s prob why their TC is no where near faang. Which also means the job is much more relaxed. I have friend at Salesforce and they speak very highly of the company.
