I’m an international student with 1 YOE and got these two offers: Salesforce (return intern offer) Location: San Francisco Level: MTS Base: 158k RSU: 27.5k (110k over 4 years) Bonus: 16k (10%) Sign-on/Relo: 25k sign on + 13.5k relo TC: 1st year: 240k, Recurring: 201k Coinbase (new grad offer) Location: Remote, SF/NY Level: IC3 Base: 135k RSU: 50k (1 year vest, no cliff) Bonus: 7k (5%) Sign-on/Relo: None, 3.6k per year WFH stipend TC: 1st year: 195k, Recurring: 195k Both won't negotiate, but I believe I can negotiate a 10k sign-on from Coinbase. Also Coinbase isn't willing to consider prior YOE, MS degree. What are the important things I should think of while choosing between these two? If Coinbase, why?
Also, how do you plan on asking for sign on bonus
There are a couple of datapoints on levels.fyi that mention sign-on for CB - will mention that. I think I did well in the interviews. Plus I really don't mind signing for Salesforce, so nothing to lose.
Lol kids are getting 158k base after MS . Great. I started with 100k in 2014 in a similar company like salesforce. Interesting to see how tech salaries have gone up.
Salesforce gives more base than many other companies but the RSUs are very weak. 100k base in 2014 is not comparable to Salesforce’s base even in 2014, so whatever company you are considering to be similar isn’t quite. The base salary for a new grad at Salesforce was 95-100k even in late 2008/2009.
I see
Salesforce is a shitty curd app that’s a friendlier version of oracle. Coinbase is a leader in a nascent field.
Coinbase is not worth a pay cut AND shitty WLB. Ask them to increase the offer by at least 20-30% of your SF offer. Otherwise go with SF.
Salesforce has good wlb and if you stick there for 5 to 6 years as new hire you will see lot of promotions. The downside is depending on the team the tech stack can be good or bad.
Yeah people think here every team has shitty legacy stack.
How about refreshers at Salesforce. Heard they are pretty stingy with Refreshers.
Depends on what you wanna work on
Don’t worry about a 10-20k difference early on in your career. Focus on the learning opportunities, Coinbase will probably have a lot.
For sure coinbase. If comp is your worry - youll be able to get promoted to ic4 in less than a year so youll go up to (250k) and most good engineers can hit senior in 3 years (400k). Also much more interesting problems and if you care about crypto (and making $$ on crypto) at all theres a lot you can’t learn at most other places.
was in the same situation as u, if u plan on leaving salesforce to chase after better offers in other company in a few yrs, then just pick the bigger name and better pay, cuz you just want to maximize ur pay. Also salesforce is a relatively good company, u r early in your career so anything you learn will be useful anyways. If you want to make career growth by promotions and learning new tech, stay in coinbase. It all really depend on what you want to do with your life though.
You get 50k a year in RSU’s and they refreshed every year?
They have a perf based RSU refresh multiplier policy - https://www.teamblind.com/post/Coinbase-performance-rating-CfP68tXa
