I resigned this week. I worked as QA for an auto recycling company in Atlanta, I most tested their point of sales systems as well as their data generated reports for executives. So for the last two weeks this company had fallen to ransomware attacks ( Company uses dedicated hardware running Windows Server 2012) which initially I told my manager was a bad look when I started over a year ago. So the last two weeks all of "IT engineering members" had been scrambling to get their environments back up, even production took a hit, the retail divisions were down to a point they were creating paper and pencil receipts. So this Monday they finally have everyone come on (QA, BA) basically non infrastructure related people. One of the employees decided to be a jerk, and decided to salt an entire box of donuts in the break. While all this is going on the managers are cursing and yelling and telling people to run Malwarebytes on our computers. Finally some shrieks from the break room saying "OMG SOME A**HOLE, SALTED THE DONUTS". people get upset but carry on. The owner of the company comes in and starts acting like a principal, and aggressive at the same time. Before I know it I'm called in a room with 4 other employees because I came in at a time "post salted" donuts anyway they sit us in the small room and all my co-workers are telling their sob stories typical "I'm too old to look for a job, I have a wife and kids, and one guy complaining about having to move back home with his parents if he loses his job". Furthermore before sitting us down my manager said " who ever did this is an a**hole and is saying F U to the company, someone's head will be on a pike for this" then the owner shortly making a threat saying "if someone doesn't fess up I'll fire you all". Anyway we stew in the room. Finally the owner comes back and asks if anyone has anything to say? One person is sobbing and the other people are groaning on about their wife and kids. At this point I've decided this is too much so when the owner calls my name and asks me to speak up I say the following "This is giving me anxiety." Which it was I have generalized anxiety disorder and tech medication for it daily. The owners face turns purple and he says "oh yeah you're one of those huh?" (I can only assume he meant one of those mentally fragile people) he mockingly says "Why don't you go take a mental health day" so I get up and decide to go to belongings. At this point I have decided already I do not want to stay with this company that carries such hostility and aggression. I start packing my book bag and the owner states "oh you won't need you laptop just leave it here" I clarify to the owner I'm taking my personal belongings home. (my keyboard, mouse, headphones, clock) the owner gets all paranoid when I unplug my USB receiver out and asks what I'm doing. I state that it was received for my mouse and keyboard. By the time I have all my things I realize I'm juggling all these items in my hands and ask for a box, the owner leaves the room and goes into the break room, throws the box of donuts against the fridge, and comes back and throws the box at my chair, while saying "it's the quickest box I could find.". I politely tell him there is sugar in the box and I'll just take my chances and juggle my items towards the door. The owner escorts me out whole saying "let us know when you're medically cleared" in regards to my anxiety comment earlier. I don't go in on Tuesday, and I dont go in my on Wednesday. My boss finally messages me Wednesday asking when I plan on returning to work, I call him and let him know that I can't work for a company that hostile and aggressive saying things like "I want someone's head on a pike" quickly my boss replies "so you're resigning?" I state that yes I am being forced to due to the aggression. I tell my boss I still have my keyfob and key and would like to return those items and I do not wish to meet at the company office and I can meet him at a cafe. We agree on noon at Friday, my boss is really hesitant, like he wants nothing to do with me, I let him know that I wouldn't partake in such a childish prank, I hand my keys to him he hands me this pathetic acception of resignation and we go our separate ways. Total nightmare. TLDR: Some jerk salted a box of donuts owner of the company wildly accused 4 people who were late to the office, mocked my anxiety and I ended up resigning
Tldr?
Too Long; Didn't Read
Yes, I was asking OP to provide a tldr for this wall of text.
Sheesh sounds like a sucky experience but glad you left that hell hole.
Good riddance mate, good luck for the next hunt. PS: This is the kind of post Blind was originally intended for.
😡 Pull-a-part, So they want to fire everyone if someone doesn't volunteer their head on a pike. Watching people cry for their jobs. That is a terrible environment. You are much better off having resigned.
Good on you for walking out OP. Owner sounds like an asshole.
Was it always like this? Or was this a crazy out of character situation for him? Sometimes people blow their top because of personal issues or stress. Otherwise kind and loving people can become intolerable monsters given the right circumstances. If it was an out of character incident for him: I would have just taken a few personal days or work from home if I were you.
He's always very vulgar uses gruesome language in monthly marketing meetings and was upset about the tariffs out on Mexico and the scrap industry and in a room full of employees be goes "yeah these tariffs are really f***ing us in the a**! Like dude come on you're an owner of a company.
Ouch wow, good for you on getting out of that then. If you can, mention this to other leaders in the company. Maybe he can be kicked out.
Ugh. I hope you’ll find a new job soon! It was a good decision and you should be proud of yourself. No one deserves such a treatment.
What are salted donuts? They sound tasty. I've had salted ice cream and it tasted great.
Salted donuts a real thing, imagine putting some seasalt on some sweet savory donuts.. but whoever sprinkled the salt on these donuts had bad intentions....and over salted them. I'm still in shock about how everything went down.
Holy crap wtf I’m glad there wasn’t a tl;dr because it was worth the read lol
TLDR
It was actually fun to read. Moved much faster than I thought.
Recommend the read. Best blind post in a while
