Accepted an offer from Samsung HW team. Now got an on-site with Microsoft HW team. Cannot decide if I should go for the interview or not ! Yoe 5yrs, location - Bay area Samsung pros: - different IP to work on, - new IP, new team Samsung cons: - integration team (may not get lot of FE design which is my interest area) - NO RSUs (TC $185K excluding sign on) Microsoft pros: - SoC team, different from current role so still a learning opportunity - RSUs which may go to $200k over 4yrs Microsoft cons: - SoC team, work can be generic - Not really cons for Microsoft but since I have accepted an offer already I would get blacklisted from Samsung TIA for any suggestions.
You won't get blacklisted from Samsung.
Who cares if you're blacklisted from such terrible company?
@Lcja21 why is it terrible?
Take the interview. Microsoft is a great place to work
Why do you want to go to a shitty Korean company?
Why not?
Heard Microsoft HW is shitty political
Do you know about any particular teams ?
Which team are you talking to? Design, arch, verification, System?
Does 185k TC include the bonus? What is breakdown of base + bonus? Historically Samsung paid 110% bonus but lately due to market condition, the bonus is 90% or so.... So keep that in mind
$145k + 15% bonus + 20k retention
Wats the normal Samsung YoY raise ? Not been through one yet.
I have heard it's not much at all. And since no RSUs, there are no "refereshers" for your pay
Anyway Samsung is a shitty Korean company with one of the best HW tech to work on.
There is a huge trade off but everything depends on your goals
MSFT is probably a better work environment in general, but if it were me I would look at Microsoft's commitment to hardware vs. Samsung. I know a few former Kin, WinPhone, Kinect, etc. folks who are bitter about MSFT.
TC?
