A seller insisted I paid bitcoin and seemed to have a good rating so I trusted them then found out next day a seller account had been compromised and the person I was talking to was not who it should be . I know it was dumb to not use PayPal but honestly are you supposed to Question every seller on eBay . Fuck . I was scammed out over 5000 dollars in bitcoin and litecoin. eBay said they could do nothing . I hope someone finds this guy some day so I can get my money back . Never use eBay again. Each miner I was trying to buy was around 2500 and 2700. If bitcoin is traceable someone find this ahole. This could have been avoided if eBay has 2 factor authentication . How do they not have that ... what a scam platform .... https://live.blockcypher.com/ltc/tx/2be81746149699429fb114eb4ba39dcbf843ecfd2889314bc291f1d0e79ad2a6 https://live.blockcypher.com/btc/tx/4b6f3c306532a1707541ef79e752b011655af254013ff7990b28f2ff2ffbb1d6 Ebay says since I did not use PayPal and was tricked by a compromised account that didn’t 2 factor authenticate that it is all my fault. Here’s hoping someone knows how to work backwards to find this guy. Also hoping a higher up in ebay reads this and helps me to make this right . I can give my seller details cause ebay desperately needs 2 factor authentication. So from my experience this is how I learned you must use eBay. 1) if a deal is too good to be true you may want Check the following : - is the seller rating good . - question is the seller really the owner of the account who claims to have this good rating. - does the seller have a history of selling items and do they have feedback related to selling . In general ebay feedback rating s combination of buying history and selling history. In my case this has been an eBay member for 19 years but started selling two weeks ago. - is the PayPal address I am sending to look like Chinese ? Now tell me how Ebay has turned them platform into this ... it truly is 99.9 percent scam. I have used eBay for over 20 years and never been scammed till now . Please share this to eBay president ceo. There is change needed now.
But there are other platforms where you don’t have to do this trust game bullshit. You shouldn’t have to question who you are dealing with . It’s stupid that’s why you trust a platform . I have been a long time buyer on eBay .
Dumb idiot !
Rofl, eBay is 99.9% scam. Sorry you were taken. Write off the loss, learn the lesson, and move on.
Looks like a write off is a good idea but looks like it must exceed ten percent of adjusted gross income .
Why nobody pointed out this as a major flaw in crypto currencies?
Because it is working as designed? Crypto is the same as cash. Once you hand it over, it is no longer yours. I wouldn't give over $5k to somebody I cannot verify on the promise of getting something from them next week. I would pay for an escrow service or in something that could be reversed later if they don't follow through.
You went off-platform with your payment and expect eBay to help you? eBay clearly says not to accept payments or perform payments outside of the designated process because of this very issue
It shouldn’t matter if you go off platform if the damn platform has blantant holes in the security . People are legit getting scammed. And bitcoin is the future and you Nothing to stop this. Get 2 factor authentication it’s 2017 for god sake
eBay does have 2FA lol. Maybe we should do a better job of coaxing the user to enable it, but eBay has 2FA. I’m sure if you bought an item from a third-party seller on Amazon, paid off-platform, and then they scammed you you’d get the same result
Crypto sucks for actually making transactions. Sorry you had to learn it the hard way. If this was dollars, it would've been traceable and potentially reversible
You sent $5000 to someone. Damn, that sucks sorry to hear that.
Even if a seller had 100% rating from tens of thousands of people you should never trust them with so much money, especially out of e-Bay's protected payment system (paypal). Sorry but it is your responsibility to know the limitations and policies of the platform you are using. I don't even trust Amazon when buying certain things like fragrance as they are almost always of less quality than what you buy at local stores like Macy's or Nordstrom.
