How does fb treat promo tc vs new hire tc. Amazon sucks at it, and you might not even get any bump if you're meeting lowest end of the band for your level.

Does the same happen at fb? For instance, is it common to get 400k TC when being promoted to e5 ?

  • Yes. FB is one of the companies where 30% people who were internally promoted make more than external hires

      OP
But it depends solely on your perf, i.e. each level has it's own refresh base (setting aside multipliers now).
so for instance e5 refresher is 140ish, which relates to initial grant of 560 for 4 years.

How does it work with the base raises when promoted?

Its across industry... in most cases external hires make more than internal promo candidates. Innitial grants during joining is one of the big reason

External hires are always in the mid of the range while internal promos are always on the lower end. At Amazon they offered top of the range but Apple countered so here I am :)
