Searching for employment with work life balance. Where does it exist?

I have reached a point in my career path that I am no longer concerned about salary compensation as much as I am about work life balance. We all know the stories circulating about Amazon's ruthless work culture and my experience here over the past 4 years is no different. So, at this time, I am searching for an employer that believes in work life balance. The problem is that every where I am searching I am discovering that many tech companies are following this pattern for workforce management especially in support roles. I have been working a few months at a startup and the gig started off sweet. But they are hiring Visa workers at a rapid pace and the inevitable is occurring. Suddenly management is encouraging us to compete on case completion metrics which is causing folks to work late nights and weekends to gain accolades. Some of these folks have no other option but to do so in order to maintain H1B status. I voiced my concerns to the VP and Director, thier response was that they are not encountering any issues finding people willing to invest the extra time and do not see a reason to not take advantage. This saddens me so... My questions to the community. Have you personally found this unicorn employment in your tech career? What role are you fulfilling and who is the employer? I have life’s one of best wlb. Wfh no issue anytime, taking day off no issue anytime etc attend kids all school events etc ...but have low TC which is giving me frustration and was thinking to join fang for higher TC... not sure if it is worth it seeing post from op... i believe we can get either high TC or WLB not both at the same time

I somewhat agree with you about the TC vs WLB ratio which is why Im willing to compromise. When I divide thw hours I'm clocking into my current salary, I'm averaging just below $100k. But dont completely write off FAANG employment as there are some strong benefits that can be gained from joining these companies. Not all of the roles in FAANG are affected by this scenario. Since you are not ignorant of the realities, you will probably navigate yourself into a niche.

Same. I went from tech to healthcare. Left earlier in my career so the TC difference was more manageable. I work remotely, my team is diverse and I have greater WLB. Texas is still relatively low cost of living in comparison. I don’t get catered lunches, to work for FAANG and my TC 5 years later is insanely different than my friends that stayed in tech but I’m happy. That being said, I do have friends in FAANG who seem to have WLB but it’s very dependent on function, team and management.

Atlassian - its all summit driven development and they hire 2x the need. So U r effectively working only 4 months (dec-April) and others can cover too. Plus good benefits - food/snacks in the office
