Hi, I'll be interviewing at Tableau Seattle for Product Management Manager position. Is tie considered part of business professional attire in Seattle Tech circle? I plan on formal slacks, dress shirt and jacket. Not sure about tie. Never wore one in Silicon Valley.
Tie is absolutely must in Seattle. But we do it a bit differently here, so I would add a Hoodie with the tie. It looks odd to outsiders but is perfectly normal here. No umbrellas though, that is a total no no.
😂
No tie. Shirt and jeans
Your plan sounds good. No tie necessary.
Tableau has a very laid back culture. I would avoid the tie. Jeans or khakis and a button up shirt are often the most “formal” dress wear you’ll see in the development team.
Yeah, but this is a management position, so a jacket's pretty common there. Though I doubt anyone would care if an applicant wasn't wearing a jacket...
Definitely rent a tux.
No tie, that'd probably be too formal for at least some of the people in your interview loop. Rest sounds fine for a manager.
Always better to dress up than down. A tie is always good.
Thanks for all the feedback. I went with tie since recruiter had said 'business professional' however probably was overdressed.
I give dev interviews often at Tableau and I just realized I really don't remember what most interviewees wear. To me, it makes zero difference as long as it's somewhat clean.
