Seattle, Things to do?

Feb 5 58 Comments

I am going on a trip to Seattle next week. I have never been, but love PNW. I am considering Seattle as a place to move to, and want to get a good feel for the city. Please leave suggestions on things to do/see!

Edit: will be staying in Kirkland

Avoid Seattle. It's a dump of a city. Stay on the east side. Seattle you will see homeless everywhere, trash, crime, needles and drug paraphernalia. You will likely witness live drug deals in broad daylight as cops stand by and do nothing since the district attorney sides with the progressives who don't believe in consequences. Maybe you can take pictures of all this tho and try to enact some change. Last time I was in Seattle waiting for the 545 bus back to Redmond a guy on drugs started shooting and I vowed never to set foot in Seattle again

    • I live on the East side and agree with Seattle's description above - it's a trashy unsafe mess.

Bellevue is amazing and is just across the lake, no homeless camps, no piss smell, no potholes, very safe and exceptionally clean.

Seattle downtown has a Target that gets robbed every 10 min on average, literally. Just think about that for a moment. I'm not exaggerating, look up a recent story about a TV theft there, it's hilarious and sad.

Strange that OP assumes I'm "right wing" due to reporting factual observations. This was in 2019/20 prior to the pandemic when I stopped commuting downtown. As others have said the east side is so much nicer, Bellevue is a great place. I have only ever felt unsafe in Seattle and have lived all over the world and in the US. I live on the east side and never anything like Seattle crime.

It's not the description of *any* US city. Seattle is unique due to the lack of police powers and now noone wants to be a police officer in Seattle due to the progressives wanting to "defund the police" and seem to enjoy creating a crime ridden melting pot.

The worst thing I saw outside of shootings was a guy with a needle hanging out of his arm as I walked to a meeting and noone battered an eyelid, just normal Seattle.

If you don't believe it then please visit. Watch the documentary Seattle is dying" on YouTube filmed by a "liberal" media company. Watch the local king 5 news which is extremely pro Seattle and local businesses who have been there for decades are being forced to close as they're sick if being robbed and can't find staff to work there. There's also a start up which moved to the east side as they couldn't hire anyone since no one felt safe downtown.

Seattle is and will always be a shit hole, even moreso as remote work has meant that professionals have no interest in working and living downtown.

But seriously, how is PDX so close and yet so far away in food variety and taste?

All I can say is, I’d rather eat in SF/East Bay, LA, NY, Philly, or PDX any day.

And what’s up with Asian, Indian, and Mexican food in Seattle? Holy moly. What a city.

Explore Capitol Hill. Go to bars/restaurants there. Take a ferry ride (e.g. to then go to Port Townsend). Go on a hike (check wta.org for suggestions). Walk around Green Lake. Car Museum in Tacoma. Go up the Space Needle. Museum of Pop Art. Bill & Melinda Gates’ Foundation tour. Pike Place Market. Oysters in Chuckanut Drive. Visit the Boeing assembly line, hopefully in the week.
