Well Fraiser, start in boston but then move to seattle post divorce.
Seattle
Seattle but get into a good neighborhood for a good public school unless you home school or choose a private school.
I think your expected lifestyle and income will play a huge part of the decision. I was able to live downtown and raise my now-12 year old, but it cost $$$ to get a decent place and $$$ for private school. If you want to be in a suburb with good schools, you're looking at a commute and $$$ for a place to live. As others have noted, weather is very different. Volcano risk is low, but months of cold and miserable weather is guaranteed.

Best LCOL or MCOL city?
Seattle. No income tax.
What’s the rent like in Boston? Comparable to Seattle?
If you mean the Boston city then more expensive or equivalent to Seattle, Cambridge is almost same as Boston. Outskirts of Boston is also similar to Bellevue etc.
